The Accountant will support the Accounting team with period-end close and expense management activities. They will complete many accounting tasks, including preparation and posting of journal entries, GL account reconciliations, correcting entries, and financial reporting schedules. They will work with the Accounts Payable, Payroll and Grants teams to research and follow-up on and will support the team on special projects where needed. The Accountant will work collaboratively with other team members to strengthen policies, processes and systems for continuous improvement.

A successful Accountant will leverage their strong organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail to execute recurring accounting tasks. They will operate as a team player, completing all responsibilities on time and willing to jump in to support where needed. They will remain open and adapt to changes that will increase efficiency and strengthen financial reporting.

Essential Job Duties

  • Financial Accounting and Reporting duties:
    • Participate in month-end and year-end closings, ensuring adherence to deadlines and accuracy of data.
    • Reconcile Balance Sheet and Income Statement line items, including HRA/HSA and other benefits-related accounts.
    • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation.
    • Review entries for travel and AP ensuring proper coding.
    • Manage fixed asset portfolio, additions, deletions and depreciation recording.
    • Track and record investment balance changes monthly for all reserve and endowment funds.
    • Support Treasury Management lead with daily cash activity, reporting, and reconciliations.
  • Expense Management duties:
    • Manage corporate card and staff reimbursement process.
    • Train and support employees in processing expense reports.
    • Reconcile and pay corporate cart statements.
  • Payroll duties:
    • Learn payroll system and process to provide back up to primary payroll person.
    • Participate in meetings, attend trainings with payroll and human resources teams.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

Required and preferred knowledge and experiences to succeed.  

  • Education and Work Experience:
    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, or equivalent work experience.
    • 3+ years of progressive experience in accounting roles.
  • Technical Experience:
    • Proficiency in accounting software and financial systems, as well as Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Meticulous attention to detail in reviewing financial records, performing reconciliations, preparing financial reports with accuracy, and filing documentation.
    • Efficient time management skills to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Collaborative approach to working with colleagues, departmental leaders, and external partners to achieve common goals and objectives.
    • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, deadlines, and business needs in a fast-paced environment.
    • High ethical standards and integrity in handling financial information, adhering to professional codes of conduct and organizational policies.
    • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in accounting principles, regulations, and best practices.
  • Additional Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience in a not-for-profit environment, especially organizations that specialize in HIV treatment.

Pay Rate:

Starting at $60,000/annually (Depending on Experience)

The final salary will be determined based on factors such as market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications. Please note that it is uncommon for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range.
