Community Action Partnerships of Western Nebraska (CAPWN) is a non-profit community-based health and human services organization that serves low-income, disadvantaged and those unable to meet their needs through other sources. The agency was established in 1965 and provides services to over 9,000 individuals, children and families in three main areas:

  • Community Health Services: WIC, Commodity Supplemental Food, Foster Grandparents, Head Start, and Child Development Center.
  • Clinical Health Services: Primary Care, Reproductive Health, Diabetes Management, Immunizations, Migrant Health, Ryan White HIV; Behavioral Health including Counseling Services, Medication Management, Medication Assisted Treatment and Substance Use Counseling and Intensive Outpatient Services and Dental Services. 
  • Supportive Health Services: Family Stabilization, a Teen Outreach Program, SOAR, Youth Leadership Program, Youth Shelter and Housing Assistance Programs.

Areas of Responsibility: The Accounting Specialist-Grants is responsible for accurately entering and processing accounting data. This role requires excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, as well as a strong sense of teamwork. In this role, you’ll oversee the financial side of our programs, shaping and maintaining the systems and processes that keep us compliant, efficient, and ready for anything. Working in a fast-paced environment, you’ll tackle a wide array of grant-related accounting tasks—everything from general ledger reviews and financial reporting to preparing year-end audit materials and supporting budgets for new and existing grants. Your work ensures that programs have the financial clarity and support they need to thrive.


Major Duties:

  1. Maintain accurate agency accounting records.
  2. Ensure expenses presented for payment are coded properly, entered timely, and have the required documentation according to finance policies and procedures.
  3. Enter grant budgets into MIP accounting system.
  4. Approve accounts payable expenses based on grant responsibility.
  5. Prepare monthly and quarterly grant reports as needed.
  6. Seek clarification and documentation of expenses and recommend corrections as necessary.
  7. Prepare bank deposits.
  8. Ensure accounts receivable entries and cash receipt entries are prepared timelyhave the required documentation, and are coded properly.
  9. Research and resolve invoice discrepancies.
  10. Pull monthly postage meter report and save to Finance drive and upload funds as needed.
  1. Maintain confidentiality of records and communications following CAPWN policy and HIPAA privacy and security policies and procedures.
  1. Work with finance staff to meet semi-monthly, monthly, quarterly, and annual deadlines.
  2. Cross train to provide back up for other finance staff and administrative office.
  3. Maintain both an electronic and a hard-copy file of agency leases and contracts.

Working Conditions:

  • Periods of tight deadlines including monthly, quarterly, and annual timelines for completion of accounting activity. 
  • Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require standing and walking.
  • Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse groups of people.


Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work with clients, vendors, and other employees.
  • Must regularly talk, hear and have close vision ability. 
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, crouch, push and pull file draw.
  • Fine manipulation of the hands with repetitive action.
  • Operate office machines, printers, computers, adding machines.
  • Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds 


Minimum Qualifications:

 

Grade: 3

  1. AA Degree in Accounting preferred or one year of accounting work experience. 
  2. Required to have experience with Microsoft Excel and ability to learn our accounting software. 
  3. Requires proficient level of written and verbal communication skills.
  4. Ability to work with culturally diverse groups of people.
  5. Attention to detail is imperative.
  6. Must be bondable.
  7. Must have a valid driver’s license with good driving record and insured vehicle.
  8. Must be 21 years old or above.

 

Grade: 4

  1. Meet the minimum qualifications above.
  2. Three years of accounting work experience.

 

Grade: 5

  1. Meet the minimum qualifications above.
  2. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field or five years of accounting work experience.

 

Grade: 6

  1. Meet the minimum qualifications above.
  2. Specialized training or seven years of accounting work experience.
