Controller
About the job
Noah’s Ark Animal Clinics is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Controller to lead the financial operations of our growing, multi-location veterinary organization. This role is ideal for a hands-on financial leader who enjoys improving systems, developing people, analyzing complex information, and helping operational leaders better understand the financial side of their practices.
The Controller will oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, cash management, inventory controls, tax compliance, and the development of strong internal controls. This position also leads members of the Finance Department and works closely with company leadership, clinic managers, outside accountants, bankers, insurers, and vendors.
What You’ll Do
Lead and oversee the company’s financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory accounting, banking, cash management, and tax-related activities.
Prepare accurate monthly financial statements, DVM production reports, budgets, forecasts, and other financial analyses.
Ensure monthly financial reports are completed, approved, and distributed by the 20th of each month.
Develop, document, communicate, monitor, and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Ensure accounting records are accurate, complete, and maintained in accordance with GAAP.
Manage and approve monthly bank reconciliations.
Lead the annual budgeting process and provide ongoing budget-to-actual reporting.
Maintain cash forecasts and oversee banking and corporate credit card activities.
Monitor company expenses and identify opportunities to strengthen financial performance.
Support company pricing strategies through regular review of costs, expenses, and operating results.
Help clinic and department leaders understand their financial performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
Maintain financial scorecards, goals, and KPIs used during recurring leadership meetings.
Direct tax compliance activities and assist the company’s outside CPA firm with tax-return preparation.
Complete required sales tax, excise tax, and other periodic financial reports.
Manage relationships with bankers, insurers, vendors, and outside accounting professionals.
Provide leadership, development, and accountability for Finance Department team members.
Complete financial projects and analyses that support company growth and strategic decision-making.
What We’re Looking For
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
At least five years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
Previous business management or financial leadership experience.
Strong working knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, budgeting, and financial reporting.
Extensive experience with QuickBooks in a multi-location or multi-class environment.
Advanced Excel skills, including experience managing and analyzing large, complex data sets.
Experience leading, developing, and holding direct reports accountable.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both financial and nonfinancial leaders.
Experience in a multi-location healthcare, veterinary, retail, or service-based organization is preferred.
You May Be a Great Fit If You
Notice when numbers, processes, or reports do not make sense—and take ownership of finding the answer.
Consistently look for ways to improve systems rather than accepting “good enough.”
Can move large projects forward while still handling important day-to-day priorities.
Pay close attention to details without losing sight of the broader organizational goals.
Enjoy teaching others and making financial information easier to understand.
Approach problems collaboratively and make decisions with the greater good of the organization in mind.
Compensation and Benefits
Base compensation with a performance‑based incentive.
Comprehensive employee benefits package - PTO, Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, STD, LTD, FSA, EAP, 401(k), CE Allowance, Employee Well-Being Initiatives and discounts on products and services.
Opportunity to play an important leadership role in a growing, multi-location veterinary organization.
