Corporate Controller

Location: Honolulu, HI (On-site) | Ala Moana Office

Hawaiʻi Behavioral Health (HBH) is seeking an experienced Corporate Controller to lead our accounting operations and support the continued growth of our organization. This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic financial leader who enjoys improving processes, building strong teams, and partnering with executive leadership to drive organizational success.

As the Corporate Controller, you will oversee all accounting functions, financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting support, and compliance while ensuring the financial integrity of a growing multi-program healthcare organization.

What You'll Do

  • Lead all corporate accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, fixed assets, and cash management.
  • Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Develop, maintain, and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
  • Partner with executive leadership to provide financial analysis, reporting, and strategic recommendations, to include system improvements and process enhancements.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives across the organization.
  • Monitor organizational financial performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Coordinate annual audits and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors (if applicable).
  • Manage tax compliance and work with outside tax advisors as needed.
  • Oversee banking relationships and treasury management.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop the accounting team.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local financial regulations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Active CPA license required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting experience.
  • At least three (3) years of leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience managing the full accounting cycle and month-end/year-end close.
  • Experience preparing financial reports for executive leadership and external auditors.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls, audits, and regulatory compliance.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Previous experience as a Corporate Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior accounting leader.
  • Experience with QuickBooks or similar ERP/accounting software.
  • Healthcare, behavioral health, nonprofit, or multi-entity accounting experience.
  • Experience managing external audits and tax filings.
  • Experience with grant accounting and government funding.
  • Experience leading finance teams through organizational growth or system implementation.
