The role requires regular on-site attendance in the Minneapolis office at least three days per week, including required in-office attendance each Wednesday, consistent with operational needs
Job Summary
Provides strategic and operational leadership, financial planning and analysis for Minnesota Adult & Teen Challenge's budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and analytics. This role partners with senior leadership to support sound financial decision-making and ensure timely and accurate reporting.
The Finance Director directly supervises the Financial Analyst, developing finance team members while strengthening financial processes that support MnTC’s mission, long-term goals, and operational accountability.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Budgeting and Forecasting
- Lead the annual budget process in partnership with senior leadership and department leaders.
- Develop financial forecasts that identify trends, operational risks, staffing impacts, program
needs, and actions required to achieve organizational goals. - Complete quarterly reforecasts and communicate material changes, assumptions, and recommended actions to senior leadership.
- Maintain metric-driven budget drivers that support reliable projections for revenue, expenses, staffing, utilization, and program performance.
- Provide financial modeling for new initiatives, program changes, funding shifts, and capital investments.
Financial Reporting and Analysis
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for leadership, governance, and operational decision-making.
- Lead financial performance reviews with senior and departmental leadership, including budget to-actual results, variances, trends, and corrective actions.
- Perform financial analysis as directed by the Finance Committee, President, and SVP of Finance, including pro forma, return-on-investment, cost, and sustainability analyses.
- Translate financial and operational data into actionable recommendations that support company priorities, Scorecard metrics, issue resolution, and organizational accountability.
Management and Supervision
- Lead the daily operations, workflows, and service standards for the Finance team.
- Set team priorities that support MnTC’s long-term goals, financial stewardship, program operations, and organizational accountability.
- Supervise, coach, and develop staff through clear expectations, regular feedback, training, and performance accountability.
- Strengthen cross-functional partnerships with accounting, program, development, operations, and executive leadership teams to improve financial clarity, accountability, and decision-making.
Required Skills & Experience (Minimum Qualifications):
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting,
- CPA or equivalent experience strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting, finance, or financial management experience, preferably within a nonprofit healthcare, behavioral health, human services, and/or multi-site organization.
- Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience with direct supervision of staff or managers.
- Demonstrated experience within finance and/or accounting operations, preferably for a nonprofit healthcare, behavioral health, or social services setting.
- Strong understanding of nonprofit financial management, fund accounting, grant accounting, internal controls, financial reporting, and budgeting principles.
- Advanced proficiency in financial reporting systems, ERP/accounting software, Microsoft Excel, and business intelligence tools.
- Proven leadership experience managing, coaching, developing, and holding finance team members accountable for performance and organizational outcomes.
- Ability to analyze financial and operational data and translate findings into actionable improvements.
- Strong cross-functional leadership skills, with the ability to partner effectively with finance, clinical, and admissions teams.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate financial information effectively to executive leadership and stakeholders.
- High level of accuracy, organization, and integrity in handling sensitive financial and client data.
- Ability to successfully complete background check.

Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds at a time.
- This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement upon successful completion of training and demonstration of independent job performance.
Target Compensation Range (Negotiable based on Qualifications):
$85,000/year - $95,000/year
