Director of Cost Accounting
Summary
This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). This position will play a critical leadership role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and strategic utility of financial data and cost accounting practices. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining robust cost accounting standards, optimizing the integration and data integrity across various financial and operational systems including core financial reporting system, Workday, and productivity systems. The Director will drive insights through overhead benchmarking and system allocations, ensuring financial data reliably supports strategic decision-making, operational efficiency, and accurate financial reporting across the organization.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Budgeting & Planning
- Coordinate system wide annual operating budget process coordinating with department heads and improving upon budgeting processes
- Oversee system wide headcount planning processes including annual FTE budgets and workforce analysis
- Oversee cost analysis and forecasting including service line and departmental contribution margin
- Coordinate and manage annual capital budget and all related functions
Cost Center Management & Business Partnering
- Drive monthly BVA process for each operational stakeholder to provide visibility and drive accountability to investment plans and operating targets.
- Build and maintain cost center reporting frameworks that give functional leaders real-time visibility into spend vs. budget
- Challenge and advise department heads on headcount, vendor spend, and project investments
- Analyze annual cost reports and related schedules to provide strategic direction
Financial Analysis & Reporting
- Produce monthly analysis (actuals vs. budget/forecast) with clear narratives
- Identify and drive operational efficiency and investment optimization opportunities across the system
- Monitor all operations and business activities to ensure they produce the desired results and are consistent with the overall strategy and mission
- Analyze and interpret financial data and recommend changes to improve systems and financial performance
Process & Systems
- Continuously improve budgeting systems and processes
- Establish scalable cost management practices to support operations and growth
- Develop and implement cost management strategies across all departments of the organization by working closely with other department heads and executives to develop cost-saving measures and practices
- Monitor all operations and business activities to ensure they produce the desired results and are consistent with the overall strategy and mission
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA or MBA preferred.
- Healthcare experience preferred.
- 8+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including leadership experience
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- High integrity, professionalism, and ability to influence across all levels.
- Must be able to balance competing demands, manage deadlines, and work well in a team environment.
