The Finance Director role will manage and enforce Medtronic’s capital allocation strategy, play a critical role in defining, measuring, and setting key financial targets and metrics across businesses that delivers on Medtronic's margin goals, and develop and manage regular financial reporting packages for the Executive leadership team as well as Board of Directors.  You will analyze financial data, build financial models, and develop insights and recommendations to support executive leadership decisioning. This role requires partnership across the organization with various stakeholders, including senior management.

Key responsibilities of the Finance Director include:

Capital Allocation & Investment Governance

  • Lead capital allocation frameworks across organic investment, M&A, and divestitures

  • Establish and enforce financial hurdle rates, ROI/IRR standards, and prioritization criteria

  • Oversee investment review processes, including stage gates and post-investment performance tracking

  • Ensure capital is deployed in alignment with enterprise strategy and shareholder value creation

Financial Target Setting & Margin Delivery

  • Partner across functions to design and implement financial targets that explicitly support gross margin and operating margin objectives across the enterprise

  • Translate margin goals into actionable targets (pricing, cost of goods sold, opex efficiency, mix, productivity)

  • Partner with business leaders to embed margin targets into:

    • Annual operating plans and long‑range plans

    • Incentive structures and performance management

    • Investment and resource allocation decisions

  • Monitor execution against margin targets using leading indicators and early‑warning signals

  • Ensure consistency between strategic initiatives, financial plans, and reported margin outcomes

Executive & Board Engagement

  • Prepare board‑level materials that clearly articulate strategic tradeoffs

  • Communicate financial narratives that connect performance, risk, and strategy

  • Support board committee content creation and development

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 10+ years of work experience in Finance and/or Accounting (Or Advanced Degree with 8+ years) plus 7+ years of managerial experience

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance

  • High level of diplomacy, discretion, and experience with various levels of employees

  • Experience operating in a complex matrixed environment and interacting across levels and organizations

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Eagerness to learn and expand responsibilities

  • Experience in capital project and/or capital allocation

  • MBA or CPA

  • Strong judgment, problem solving skills, tact, and discretion in identifying and resolving issues within established guidelines

  • Results-oriented, self-motivated, organized, efficient, process-oriented 

  • Team-oriented with demonstrated ability and willingness to perform various tasks in a fast-paced environment

  • Experienced in partnering with senior leaders and providing leadership in managing the function and establishing its strategic direction

  • Strong communications skills, both written and verbal

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$169,600.00 - $254,400.00

 

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

This position is eligible for an annual long-term incentive plan.

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

 

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).

 

Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns.  Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
