About the Job
Mount Laurel Animal Hospital is currently seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Financial Controller to join our team. This role will oversee the financial operations of our growing veterinary organization, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, managing accounting operations, and providing financial insights that support strategic decision-making.
This position reports to the Hospital Administrator and works closely with the CEO, CFO, hospital leadership, and department managers to support financial stability, operational efficiency, and long-term growth. The ideal candidate is an analytical problem-solver who enjoys building systems, improving processes, and partnering with leaders to drive organizational success
Responsibilities
Financial Management
• Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations including:
• Accounts payable
• Accounts receivable
• General ledger
• Bank reconciliations
• Fixed assets
• Payroll reconciliation
• Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
• Maintain the integrity and accuracy of financial records.
Budgeting & Financial Analysis
• Assist in the preparation and management of annual operating budgets.
• Monitor financial performance against budget and forecast.
• Analyze revenue, payroll, inventory, and operating expenses.
• Identify trends, risks, and opportunities for operational improvement.
• Develop financial models and reports to support strategic planning.
Internal Controls & Compliance
• Establish and maintain strong internal accounting controls.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate annual tax preparation and external audits.
• Develop financial policies and standard operating procedures.
• Ensure compliance with state and federal financial regulations.
Cash Flow & Financial Planning
• Monitor daily cash flow and liquidity.
• Assist with capital expenditure planning.
• Support banking relationships and financing activities.
• Monitor key financial metrics and recommend corrective actions when needed.
Operational Partnership
• Work collaboratively with hospital leadership to evaluate operational performance.
• Analyze labor costs, inventory management, pricing strategies, and profitability.
• Assist department managers in understanding financial reports and performance metrics.
• Support strategic initiatives with financial analysis and forecasting.
Leadership
• Mentor department leadership and help build financial knowledge and awareness.
• Promote accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
• Identify opportunities to automate processes and improve efficiency.
• Foster a culture of collaboration, professionalism, and service.
Qualifications
Required
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting or financial management experience.
• Strong understanding of GAAP.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience preparing financial statements and managing month-end close.
• Exceptional analytical and organizational skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred
• CPA designation preferred.
• Healthcare or veterinary industry experience preferred.
• Experience with multi-location organizations.
• Experience with accounting and ERP software.
• Familiarity with payroll systems and inventory accounting.
