The Manager of Accounting, Physician Services is responsible for the management of assigned areas of the physician services financial accounting and reporting division for physician practice management network. Under the direction of the Physician Division Controller, is responsible for oversight and coordination of the day to day financial operations of assigned entities. Duties include month-end financial closing in accordance with GAAP, revenue recognition, budgeting, cash management and compensation accounting for assigned contracts and/or practices within assigned areas of the Physician Services division; as well as routine communication with office managers and administrators on financial results, budgets and cash management. Works in conjunction with other Accounting Managers and the Physician Division Controller.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Manager of Accounting, Physician Services at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Completion of accurate financial statements and the accounting cycle for assigned areas or companies.
  • Supervises work of assigned staff.
  • Prepares and validates the month-end financial closings for the assigned entities. Entails preparation and review GAAP and internal operational profit and loss statements, balance sheets and statement of cash flows for multiple entities including 100+ individual departments. Duties include review of intercompany transactions, elimination entries and other expense and balance sheet reconciliations, as required, using knowledge of revenue cycle and outpatient billing practices.
  • Cash management and reconciliation that include duties such as preparation, review and training of very complex bank account reconciliations and which have multiple methods of cash flow for over 100 offices.
  • Interacts daily with the Cash Posting Team for Outpatient Billing to ensure daily reconciliations.
  • Provides oversight and direction in assigned areas of payroll accounting, accounts payable and tax issues (i.e. 1099, PR, sales, etc.) for multiple corporate entities.
  • Assists in updating/documenting procedures for accounting cycle, accounts payable and cash as needed.
  • Monitors fixed assets and capital projects, prepares variance reports of actual spend to budget and informs Administration of status of projects.
  • Participates in the annual operating and capital budget preparation with the use of Axiom and other systems to create and/or review calculations, expenses and income, as needed.
  • Develops methodologies monthly to ensure accounting for complex MPI lease compensation formulas are correctly administered. Entails setting up methodologies to ensure proper contract interpretation, set up of related financial analysis and preparation and review of quarterly variable compensation. Complexities include execution of multiple contracts terms for complex lease relationships.
  • Participate in implementation and conversion of the EPIC physician billing system and the related complexities of handling multiple crosswalks to the various systems, as assigned. When applicable, this would include additional revenue analysis to ensure that accounting estimates and the billing system are accurate and reconcile.
  • Prepare for monthly leadership meetings to report on financial and operational results for the Physician Division across the HMH network.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's level degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Minimum of 7 or more years of finance/accounting experience that includes management/supervisory experience in a physician practice environment.
  • Minimum of 2 or more years of experience in reviewing/analyzing revenue and billing reports.
  • Advanced proficiency in using technology that includes but is not limited to Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, etc.), MAS 90/200, outpatient billing systems and Axiom Budgeting Systems.
  • Strong interpersonal, team and organizational skills.
  • Proven record of progressive professional growth and responsibility.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Licenses and Certifications Preferred:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Masters in Business Administration (MBA).

Starting Minimum Rate

Minimum rate of $133,120 Annually

Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
