Job Description

Job Description: This position manages the accounting operations and internal control processes of certain companies or areas of Intermountain Health (Intermountain) and provides accounting assistance on various system-wide projects. This leader ensures financial accounting and reporting is in compliance with U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (U.S. GAAP); maintains a strong system of internal controls; hires, trains, develops and retains competent personnel; and provides excellent service to customers. Essential Functions Ensures the financial statements are in compliance with U.S. GAAP. Serves as a consultant to management and direct reports regarding application of U.S. GAAP. Develops and ensures a strong system of internal controls (within area of accountability) to protect company assets. Provides internal control expertise in other areas as needed or directed. May oversee and manage one or more of the following areas: general ledger, fixed assets, shared services transactions, month-end closing and financial statements, cash receipts management, capitated risk arrangements, reconciliations, journal entries, training, etc. for one or more companies. Accountable for quality, accuracy, and process improvement in all work. Collaborates with company or region administration and department managers to support company and region initiatives. Provides education regarding accounting issues. Demonstrates an in-depth understanding of the interrelationship of finance areas within the company and system-wide finance functions. May participate in and be accountable for system-wide projects, including overseeing development of policies, procedures, and guidelines. Directly supervises, coaches, and mentors other professionals and staff who are involved in the accounting process. Utilizes effective leadership skills to remove barriers to productivity and effectiveness. Provides timely recognition and constructive feedback to help staff improve, and to increase technical and interpersonal skills. Sets meaningful goals to meet or exceed customer expectations, improves accounting processes and prepares staff for greater responsibilities. May participate and be accountable for any of the following: Reporting for sponsored activities, meeting federal guidelines, and other regulatory requirements; overseeing and managing internal and external audits (e.g., A-133 audit); or performs other duties as assigned. Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. Degree will be verified. Master’s degree is preferred. Demonstrated progressive accounting leadership experience is required, healthcare experience preferred. Preferred qualifications include: licensed Certified Public Accountant, ability to query and data mine using databases, working knowledge of Intermountain's accounting information systems and financial processes, demonstrated ability to manage accounting operations effectively with overall accountability for department outcomes. Demonstrated excellent communication skills (both written and oral) with the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization. Experience in a role requiring demonstrated attention to detail with excellent organizational and analytical skills. Flexible and adaptable to change. Physical Requirements Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, documents, and be able to assess customer needs. Interact with others requiring the employee to communicate information. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate equipment with precision and accuracy.
