JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Controller, the Senior Accountant performs complex and technical accounting functions involving the preparation, maintenance, analysis, and review of financial records, accounts, payroll and financial reports. The position ensures the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial information while establishing and maintaining effective accounting procedures and internal controls. The Senior Accountant analyzes and interprets financial transactions and records, supports regulatory and financial reporting requirements and promotes compliance with organizational policies, accounting standards, and applicable laws and regulations.

- Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Excel.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of working with integrated accounting systems.
Education
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; or in lieu of degree, a combination of equivalent education and work experience.
Preferred:
- Master’s in Accounting or Business Administration.
Experience
- Progressively responsible accounting experience, preferably including general ledger, financial reporting, account reconciliation, and payroll accounting (3 years).
- Understanding and practical use of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience in processing Payroll (1 year).
Preferred:
- Familiarity with community health centers, medical/dental clinics or practices, hospitals, or other healthcare settings.
- Familiarity with grants.
- Experience with budgeting, including preparation of departmental and/or organizational budgets.
Credentials
Preferred:
- Public Accountant (CPA) certification by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

A. Job Specific Functions/Performance:
- Maintains accurate and complete accounting records in accordance with CHC’s policies and procedures, and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Standards and regulatory agencies.
- Coordinates and prepares internal and external financial statements.
- Coordinates activities of external auditors.
- Coordinates activities of external tax return preparers.
- Assists in preparation of departmental and organizational budgets.
- Performs financial analysis and special projects, as assigned.
- Provides management with vital financial information to assist in the decision-making process.
- Responds to requests for information from other departments within the agency.
- Assesses current accounting operations, offers recommendations for improvement, and implements new processes.
- Reviews and/or prepares monthly general ledger account reconciliations.
- Evaluates accounting and internal control systems.
- Participates in Treasury functions.
- Assists with Revenue recognition, tracking and reconciliation
- Assists with Grants Management and prepares grant specific reports.
- Adheres to attendance standards in order to perform the job functions for daily operations and/or continuity of patient care.
