Job Description

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Staff Accountant in California (USA).

This role is responsible for delivering high-quality accounting and financial reporting services within a collaborative and dynamic environment. The Senior Staff Accountant will play a key role in month-end and year-end close processes, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial analysis. The position requires close interaction with business units, providing insights on budget variances, revenue tracking, and project financials. This role also supports internal controls, audit preparation, and the development of accounting procedures to ensure compliance and accuracy. Candidates should be highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities while working independently or as part of a team. Exposure to managed care or health plan financial operations is an asset, and proficiency with accounting software and MS Office is essential.

  • Accountabilities:
  • Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes, preparing journal entries and reconciling general ledger accounts.
  • Analyze variances in income statement and balance sheet accounts, preparing reports for business units and leadership.
  • Maintain monthly close checklists, trend analyses, and enterprise project portfolio reporting.
  • Provide guidance on budget inputs, administrative expense reports, and revenue tracking.
  • Develop and maintain subledger supporting schedules and documentation where system subledgers do not exist.
  • Support internal controls, research accounting rules, and document company policy.
  • Prepare audit schedules and serve as a liaison across departments for financial initiatives.
  • Assist with payroll research, accounting corrections, and ad hoc special projects.
  • Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • 5–10+ years of accounting or financial reporting experience, preferably within a managed care or health plan environment.
  • Knowledge of GAAP principles and financial reporting processes.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Advanced computer skills with MS Office; experience with ERP systems, Adaptive Insights, and FloQast Close Manager software preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage multiple priorities, and provide guidance to business units.
  • Analytical mindset with ability to interpret financial information and make informed recommendations.
