Position Overview:
The Accounting Manager, Cash & Receivables will lead the accounts receivable and cash accounting functions, ensuring timely cash collection, accurate cash application, and complete reconciliation of cash balances. This role is responsible for overseeing customer receivables, monitoring collection performance, and ensuring bank account activity is accurately recorded and reconciled in accordance with accounting standards and internal controls.
Reporting directly to the Controller, this role will manage 1–3 direct reports and collaborate closely with Revenue Accounting, GL Accounting, FP&A and Client Operations to ensure accurate AR reporting, efficient cash processes, and strong cash flow visibility. The Accounting Manager, Cash & Receivables will also serve as a key point of contact for AR- and cash-related audits and process improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Receivable & Collections
- Oversee the end-to-end accounts receivable lifecycle, including invoiced AR, unapplied cash, and customer aging.
- Manage and monitor collection activities, partnering with Client Operations and Revenue Accounting to resolve billing or customer disputes.
- Review AR aging and collection metrics, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities to improve days sales outstanding (DSO).
- Ensure accurate AR reporting and timely resolution of past-due balances.
Cash Application & Cash Accounting
- Oversee daily and monthly cash application processes to ensure customer payments are accurately and timely applied.
- Ensure all bank activity is properly recorded in the general ledger and aligned with supporting documentation.
- Maintain controls over unapplied and unidentified cash, ensuring timely investigation and resolution.
Bank Reconciliations & Controls
- Prepare and review monthly bank reconciliations, ensuring completeness and accuracy of cash balances.
- Investigate reconciling items and coordinate timely resolution with internal stakeholders.
- Maintain strong internal controls related to cash receipts and AR activities.
Team Leadership
- Manage and mentor 1–3 direct reports responsible for AR, cash application, and bank reconciliations.
- Establish clear procedures, responsibilities, and performance expectations for the team.
- Support the professional development of team members through ongoing coaching and feedback.
Process Improvement & Systems
- Drive automation and efficiency across AR, cash application, and reconciliation processes.
- Partner with IT and Finance leaders on system enhancements involving NetSuite, banking integrations, and AR reporting.
- Develop and maintain scalable policies and procedures that support growth and audit readiness.
Audit & Cross-Functional Support
- Serve as a primary point of contact for internal and external audits related to AR and cash.
- Partner with Revenue Accounting to ensure alignment between billing, cash application, and customer balances.
- Collaborate with FP&A and AP to support cash forecasting and working capital analysis.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires at least seven years of relevant and progressive accounting experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Strong understanding of accounts receivable, cash accounting, and internal controls
- Experience with NetSuite GL and AR modules; familiarity with billing and banking integrations preferred
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in life sciences and/or consulting environments
- Experience with FloQast (close software) and Certinia (PSA)
- Previous experience in public accounting is highly valued
