The Director, Finance Strategy & Chief of Staff is a strategic and execution-focused leader who partners closely with the CFO to drive priorities across the Finance organization. This role combines strategy, program leadership, and governance, ensuring that key initiatives are delivered with discipline and that executive and Board materials are high quality and aligned.

Operating as a member of the Finance leadership team, this role translates strategic direction into actionable plans, builds structure and transparency across priorities, and strengthens the operating rhythm of the CFO office. Performs other duties as assigned.

Key Accountabilities

  • CFO Partnership & Strategic Enablement
    • Partner with the CFO to shape and operationalize Finance priorities, ensuring alignment to enterprise strategy
    • Provide structured thinking, analysis, and recommendations on key business decisions, risks, and opportunities
    • Support preparation for executive discussions, including synthesizing inputs into clear, decision-ready materials
    • Help optimize the CFO’s operating effectiveness through planning, prioritization, and follow-through
  • Strategic Advisor
    • Lead execution of high-priority Finance initiatives and cross-functional programs, ensuring delivery against defined objectives, timelines, and success metrics
    • Build and manage initiative governance (cadence, tracking, reporting, and risk escalation)
    • Partner across functions (e.g., HR, IT, Operations, Legal) to coordinate dependencies and drive outcomes
    • Develop clear reporting (dashboards, updates) to provide visibility into initiative progress and impact
    • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve execution rigor across Finance
  • Board & Executive Materials

    • Lead the development and coordination of Board and Committee materials, including Finance updates, forecasts, and strategic presentations
    • Manage timelines, draft content, and consolidate inputs to ensure cohesive, accurate, and executive-ready deliverables
    • Partner with senior Finance leaders to align messaging and ensure consistency
    • Support Board governance processes, including preparation, review cycles, and follow-up tracking
  • Finance Operating Rhythm & Coordination
    • Establish and manage the Finance operating cadence (staff meetings, business reviews, planning cycles)
    • Prepare agendas, materials, and summaries to ensure meetings are focused, efficient, and outcome-oriented
    • Drive alignment across Finance leadership by ensuring clarity of priorities, decisions, and next steps
    • Improve processes that enhance communication, accountability, and decision-making
  • Executive Communication & Insights
    • Develop executive-level presentations, talking points, and communications for internal and external audiences
    • Translate complex financial and operational data into clear insights and compelling narratives
    • Support CFO preparation for Board meetings, monthly/quarterly business reviews, and leadership forums
    • Ensure consistency in messaging and quality across all CFO and Finance outputs

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 10+ years of experience in finance, strategy, consulting, or business operations
  • Experience leading complex projects or programs across functions
  • Exposure to executive-level presentations and/or Board materials
  • Experience working closely with senior leaders in a matrixed environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exceptional project management skills with a proven track record of successful project delivery
  • Professional presence and excellent presentation and persuasion skills
  • Exceptional relationship management and the ability to influence senior level leaders
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adjust priorities appropriately and rapidly in an evolving work environment with shifting time frames
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively at both detail and big-picture levels and to drive initiatives forward
  • Experience supporting board governance processes, including meeting management, material preparation, and compliance with governance regulations preferred
  • Strong understanding of legal procedures, document preparation, and legal research preferred
  • Ability to manage and operate with highly confidential information, high level of discretion and confidentiality
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail
  • Proficiency in project management and other necessary tools and software

This position is an Office role, which requires an employee to work onsite at our Minnetonka, MN office, on average, 3 days per week.

The full salary grade for this position is $130,300 - $223,400. While the full salary grade is provided, the typical hiring salary range for this role is expected to be between $130,300 - $195,510. Annual salary range placement will depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, education, work experience, applicable certifications and/or licensure, the position's scope and responsibility, internal pay equity and external market salary data.  In addition to base compensation, this position may be eligible for incentive plan compensation in addition to base salary.
