Manager Financial Planning & Analysis

Job Summary:

The Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis is a hands-on analytical role that directly supports the VP of FP&A across the full spectrum of financial planning, forecasting, reporting, and infrastructure build. Reporting directly to the VP of FP&A, this role is a critical execution and analytical partner — helping build and operate the company's budgeting, forecasting, management reporting, and ERP/FP&A systems from the ground up. As the FP&A function grows and dedicated business partners (Directors) are hired over time, this role will continue to serve as a central analytical and operational resource supporting the broader team. This is an ideal role for a high-ownership finance professional who thrives in early-stage environments and wants direct exposure to the full spectrum of corporate FP&A at a high-potential clinical-stage biotech.

Work Arrangement & Location: 

Hybrid - This position follows a hybrid work schedule, requiring a minimum of two (2) days on-site per week — currently designated as Tuesday and Wednesday. Additional on-site days may be required based on business needs, team priorities, or leadership direction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support the implementation of the company's ERP and FP&A platform as a key end-user and analytical contributor — building system proficiency across chart of accounts, cost center structures, and reporting hierarchies to support ongoing budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting
• Support the annual budgeting process end-to-end — coordinating cross-functional submissions, maintaining budget templates and models, consolidating departmental inputs, and preparing variance analysis and budget-vs-actuals reporting across all functions
• Maintain and continuously update the company’s rolling forecast models — incorporating functional inputs, headcount assumptions, and milestone-driven scenario analysis — and support cash runway modeling and sensitivity analysis in close partnership with the VP of FP&A
• Prepare the monthly management reporting package — P&L, cash flow, headcount, and KPI dashboards — including variance commentary and narrative summaries that give leadership clear, timely visibility into the company's financial position
• Support the procure-to-pay and spend approval process — tracking purchase orders, coordinating accruals with accounting, and ensuring departmental spend is accurately reflected in financial forecasts and monthly actuals
• Build and maintain financial models for assigned functional areas, including program-level budget tracking, headcount planning models, and vendor spend analysis tied to CRO/CMO contracts and clinical milestones
• Support the VP of FP&A in delivering finance business partnering across R&D, G&A, Legal, HR, and Operations — preparing budget guidance, variance analysis, and financial reporting that enables the VP and future FP&A Directors to provide informed, decision-ready insight to functional leaders
• Actively explore and support the evaluation and adoption of AI-assisted FP&A tools and emerging technologies — identifying opportunities to streamline financial planning, reporting, and analysis workflows and increase the speed and quality of FP&A outputs; a proven track record in this area is not expected, but genuine curiosity and openness to innovation are.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field required; MBA, CPA, or CFA strongly preferred
• 5+ years of progressive FP&A or financial analysis experience, with demonstrated growth in scope and ownership over time
• Experience working within or contributing to ERP or FP&A platform implementations preferred; strong Excel financial modeling skills required, with proficiency in or genuine interest in learning FP&A planning tools
• Biotech, life sciences, or pharmaceutical industry experience preferred; exposure to R&D operations, CRO/CMO cost structures, or clinical-stage financial planning is a meaningful plus
• Strong financial modeling skills with demonstrated ability to build, maintain, and interpret multi-variable financial models, scenario analyses, and budget-vs-actuals reports
• Comfort operating in an early-stage, build-from-scratch environment where processes are still being developed and initiative is valued over waiting for direction
• Experience supporting management reporting, budget processes, and cross-functional financial planning across multiple departments simultaneously
• Comfortable with ambiguity and energized by building — able to contribute to process design and improvement, not just operate within established systems
• Collaborative team player who builds trust with cross-functional partners through reliability, clear communication, and genuine curiosity about the business
• Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills — able to translate financial data into accessible narratives for non-finance audiences including R&D leads and functional managers
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy — takes ownership of the quality of financial outputs and proactively identifies and resolves discrepancies
