ABOUT THE ROLE
The Staff Accountant, Senior Housing Consolidation & Accounting plays a key role in supporting the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting across Welltower’s senior housing portfolio. This position focuses primarily on corporate consolidation, accounting analysis, and financial reporting, while also supporting SOX compliance, audit coordination, and control processes.
Working closely with Property Accounting, Corporate Accounting, and Finance teams, this role helps ensure that property-level financial results are accurately translated into corporate reporting, while maintaining strong documentation and compliance standards within a SOX-controlled environment.
The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in accounting and financial reporting, experience working with complex entity structures or consolidations, and the ability to analyze property-level activity within a corporate reporting framework.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting, Consolidation & Financial Reporting (Primary Focus – ~70%)
- Manage the flow of financial information between operating partners and internal accounting teams, ensuring timely, accurate, and complete financial data for reporting and analysis.
- Review operator financial submissions for completeness, accuracy, and consistency, following up with Property Accounting Team regarding unusual activity, variances, or unexpected balances.
- Assist in connecting Property Accounting financial results to corporate reporting, translating operator financial information into formats aligned with corporate accounting requirements.
- Support the monthly close process by preparing journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules related to partnership and operator activity.
- Perform accounting activities for partnership structures, ensuring accurate financial reporting within the accounting system.
- Consolidate operator financial and operational data into corporate metrics, including both financial and non-financial reporting used by management.
- Assist in developing and maintaining validation checks, reconciliation procedures, and data quality controls to ensure operator financial information is reliable and audit-ready.
- Work with operators to improve financial reporting processes and understanding of consolidation requirements, helping standardize reporting expectations across partners.
Internal Controls, Compliance & Audit Support (Secondary Focus – ~30%)
- Ensure required procedures are completed and properly documented.
- Prepare and maintain supporting workpapers and documentation related to accounting processes and financial reporting.
- Assist with SOX compliance and control documentation related to journal entries, reconciliations, and close procedures.
- Support internal and external audit requests by gathering documentation, preparing schedules, and coordinating responses.
- Help ensure accounting processes follow established policies, controls, and documentation standards.
- Support the team with ad hoc accounting analysis, reporting requests, and process improvements as needed.
Core Functional Role
This position serves as a key connection point between operating partners and corporate accounting, helping ensure operator financial data is accurately integrated into Welltower’s reporting environment while supporting strong accounting processes, financial controls, and reporting consistency.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Property Accounting, Finance, and Asset Management teams to understand financial results and operational drivers.
- Coordinate with Corporate Accounting and Consolidation teams to ensure accurate integration of property-level results into corporate reporting.
- Support ad hoc financial analyses and reporting requests from Finance and Accounting leadership.

No travel is expected for this position.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 2–4+ years of accounting experience, preferably within real estate, REITs, or property accounting environments.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
- Experience supporting month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial analysis.
- Exposure to SOX environments or audit support processes.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
Preferred
- CPA or CPA candidate.
- Experience with real estate or senior housing property accounting.
- Exposure to corporate consolidation, intercompany accounting, or legal entity reporting.
- Experience working in public REITs or large, complex organizations.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and property accounting platforms.
