Job Summary

The Director of Finance provides leadership and coordination of financial planning, budget administration, and the overall management of financial operations. The Director of Finance reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer. This position ensures that all company finance and accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles, including regularly reviewing all corporate financial transactions related to the receipt and disbursement of funds. The Director of Finance will also interact with program participants and so must be familiar with the Residential Service Guidelines issued by the Developmental Disabilities Administration. At all times, the Director of Finance will seek to act in accord  with the principles and values expressed in the guidelines and uphold the agency mission “to serve individuals with developmental disabilities by providing accessible residential and other support services that will maximize the person’s quality of life.”

Day-to-Day

  • Manage and direct the financial planning and budgeting functions of the organization
    • Develop and monitor benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance of the agency, as well as that of specific programs/branches
    • Assist the Chief Executive Officer with directing and coordinating the company financial planning and budget management activities
    • Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against the budget. Provide monthly financial reports to the Chief Executive Officer and provide reports to the Board of Directors
    • Coordinate the preparation of all financial documents and accounting for the annual audit and serve as a primary agency contact for external audits, as well assisting with preparation for the biennial state certification evaluation
    • Provide financial information necessary for the preparation of the Annual Report, other publications and reports
  • Provide financial analysis, monitoring, and recommendations
    • Prepare annual operating budget and monthly financial statement analysis by agency program, contract and location
    • Recommend financial benchmarks and provide monthly reports to departments analyzing YTD performance
    • Create and maintain a financial dashboard evaluating key financial metrics for presentation to management and the Board of Directors
    • Monitor Bond Covenants quarterly to ensure compliance with debt obligations
  • Risk Management
    • Oversees agency Investment accounts, working closely with the agency Financial Advisor and Investment Committee to ensure agency funds are appropriately invested, and makes recommendations on Investment Policy updates as
    • Responsible for the creation and maintenance of internal financial policy documents including process documentation, internal controls (in coordination with the Controller), and others as necessary
    • Work closely with the agency Insurance Broker to ensure adequate coverage limits on the Insurance Policy and make recommendations as necessary to limit agency exposure
    • Ensure agency compliance with all local, state and federal regulations
  • Oversee all contracted revenue and ensure that all payments are properly processed and expenditure of funds are aligned with contract requirements
    • Prepare annual Cost Report as required by DSHS-DDA
    • Provide oversight of various client reimbursements from DDA, such as RAR’s, COCA’s, and Damage Reimbursements
  • Assist the CEO with development of short and long-range plans, business opportunities and financial goals for the organization
    • Assist with business plan development, including project development, compilation of necessary data, and assistance with production of
    • Assist the Business Development Director with obtaining necessary financial information for the preparation of grant proposals, as well of tracking use of restricted donations for reporting

Who we are looking for

  • Advanced knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and
  • Advanced knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer
  • Intermediate knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and
  • Able to determine how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect
  • Demonstrated ability identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement
  • Able to identify the developmental needs of others and coaching, mentoring, or otherwise helping others to improve their knowledge or
  • Able to provide guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring
  • Able to use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or

Job Requirements 

  • At least 21 years of age
  • A Masters degree in business, accounting or a related field from a recognized college or university or a bachelor’s degree and four years of related work experience (bookkeeping and/or accounting)
  • CMA or CPA certification preferred
  • At least one year of experience in relevant social services field
  • Familiarity with Fund Accounting Software, or other financial software
  • If applicable, have a Washington State Drivers license, current vehicle insurance and able to be covered on Alpha Supported Living Services’ automobile insurance plan based upon his/her driving record
  • Background inquiry clearance from an authorized state agency

Starting Salary:  

$123,760

Salary Scale: 

$123,760 - $168,480

Benefits:

Benefits for Full-Time Employees (30 hours or more a week) include Medical, Dental, Vision, 403(b) (non-profit version of a 401(k)) with company match, Life Insurance, Tuition Savings Program, and Tuition Reimbursement. Employees working 34 or more hours a week are eligible for PTO accrual.
