
Grant and General Ledger Accountant
Job Description
Maine Family Planning is hiring a full-time Grant and General Ledger Accountant. This position is located at our Augusta location with the option of 1-2 days working remotely.
This position is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate recording of financial transactions and monthly financial statement preparation. It oversees the effective management of the general ledger and integration of financial systems. Key responsibilities include managing the month-end close process, preparing and posting journal entries, and completing monthly balance sheet and bank reconciliations. In addition, this position assists with the tracking, reporting, and compliance of state and private grants, and serves as a liaison between the development and finance departments to ensure accurate financial coordination. The Grant and General Ledger Accountant position is supervised by the Financial Controller.
Qualifications Needed for Position:
Experience and Skill Requirements: The following experience and skills are considered essential:
- Understanding of and experience in computer system operations and full range of computerized accounting systems (general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, budgeting, cost allocation)
- 3-5 years’ experience preferred
- A minimum of intermediate level spreadsheet expertise (Excel desired) with experience producing managerial reports from accounting and client data systems (from conception to design to production).
- Excellent accounting skills to include accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to successfully work with other departments and to work independently
- Ability to multi-task
- Independent judgment
Education and Knowledge Requirements: The following education requirements are considered essential:
- Baccalaureate Degree in Accounting or related field required.
