Overview:

As America’s Most Trusted Source for ABA Services, we are seeking a highly capable and driven Payroll & Finance Director to take ownership of our multi-state payroll and financial operations.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can execute at a high level today while building the systems, structure, and team needed for continued growth. You will play a critical role in ensuring accuracy, compliance, and scalability across all payroll and related financial functions.

Core Responsibilities

Payroll & Compliance:

  • Own and oversee end-to-end payroll across multiple states and entities
  • Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Manage payroll schedules, submissions, and approvals with zero tolerance for errors
  • Proactively handle audits, discrepancies, and compliance-related issues

Financial Oversight

  • Track payroll expenses across departments, locations, and service lines
  • Partner with leadership on budgeting and financial planning
  • Develop clear, accurate, and actionable financial reports

Systems & Scaling:

  • Design and implement scalable payroll workflows and approval structures
  • Integrate payroll with time tracking, HR, and billing systems
  • Identify inefficiencies and lead automation and process improvements

Leadership & Team Oversight:

  • Hire, train, and manage payroll and finance team members
  • Build a structured, accountable department with clear roles and expectations
  • Create and enforce SOPs, workflows, and quality control systems
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex payroll and compliance matters
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with HR, operations, and executive leadership
  • Ensure strict adherence to deadlines, policies, and compliance standards
  • Develop team members through ongoing training, mentorship, and feedback
  • Foster a high-performance culture centered on accuracy, ownership, and accountability

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of multi-state payroll experience (required)
  • Proven experience building or leading a team
  • Strong knowledge of payroll compliance, taxes, and labor laws across multiple states
  • Experience with payroll systems such as Viventium, ADP, Paychex, or similar
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution
  • Excellent communication and cross-department coordination skills
  • High level of organization, ownership, and attention to detail

What Sets This Role Apart?

  • Opportunity to build and shape systems, not just maintain them
  • Full ownership over people, processes, and performance
  • Clear path for growth into senior leadership within finance and operations
